Dropped off 54 gorgeous cards at Steeped and Infused in Leslieville this afternoon!
This great tea boutique has become not only a place to pick up a gift (for yourself!) but also a card to go with it. Kitsch! cards are the only ones that are handmade (and made with love), but unbelievably are the same price as the run of the mill cards you can get anywhere - only $4!
Definitely check out this great store and get yourself some yummy tea to go with your new Kitschy card(s).
I've enjoyed the Canadian Maple Spring, Lavender Lemon Mint, and even kept some delish Green Chai tea that I bought for someone else ;)

As always, Colin (Mr. Ping Pong) had some new great vintage furniture in the store, plus Lost and Found, a unique vintage clothing collection, has opened up shop in Ping Pong so now not only can you find a great cupboard but tons of great clothes to put in it!

Vintage Ad Pins: 1.5" wide ~ $2 or 3 for $5

I had noticed that Jess @ Ransack the Universe makes pins for people on his handy-dandy pin-maker and I thought it would be great to get some made for the Spring/Summer craft shows. I have all these great ads at the back of vintage magazines that are too small too cut out but too awesome not to showcase and wouldn't you know it, they were perfect for pins!

The particular pins above are all the original ads, but I'm going to start scanning and reprinting the images since it was painful to sell my favorites!!! (These ones are still available so if you wanted me to save one for you email me)

I should just say that at the Women's Work show on May 8th, the daughter of another vendor asked me what the "Worst Thing that Could Happen to a Girl" was (bottom left). I asked her what she thought it was, and she said that it was probably getting punched in the face or breaking your arm. I didn't read the whole article in "True Confessions" magazine, but I'm sure that was what the article was about! ;)

Women's Work Craft Show - Photo Sunday

The That's Women's Work Craft Show on Saturday night was a great success in spite of the rain and wind! The attendance was good, the organizers were present and positive, and there were some great crafters. All in all a good way to begin spring/summer shows!
Here is a picture of the table at the end of the night before pack up (although you can see I was one of the last ones to pack up):

The Magnets that Started it All!

A few years ago I was on Zazzle and I thought it would be cool to get some magnets printed. When they came I was elated how great and professional they looked and when I visited a friend who was getting into the craft show circuit I thought: I can do that!

The three pictures I am posting are of three different types of artwork I tried with the magnets:
1. Repurposing ATCs to magnets
2. A photograph I had taken, altered during my experimentation with an opensource version of PhotoShop
3. Artwork that was specifically made for the magnets on square oragami paper

I've decided that Monday is going to be Flickr Favorite day.
I've been a Flickr member for almost 5 years now, and at one time I was even a "Professional Member" positing tons of pictures and being really active in commenting and posting in groups. While I haven't had the time to keep up with that, I still <3 Flickr for the wonderful images I can find to narrative my inner worlds.
Looking through my Favorites is one of my favorite things to do!
Lately I've been using my favorites to store/save pictures that I'd like to repurpose into Kitsch! art. I can't use half of what I've saved, but would still like to share them to show my aesthetic sensibilities. To find pictures, I have my Contacts, many of whom post pictures daily, and also go through other Groups that bring together similar pictures.
This bring me to: Flickr Favorite Mondays!

Today my Flickr Favorite is going to be an undated Walter Martin Baumhofer illustration from Sheepback.Cabin that I found yesterday.

I love the sexy Norman Rockwell-esque style and the confident, glowing redhead working on her own agenda. I can't think of anyway to incorporate this into an art piece because on its own it tells a powerful story that needs no augmentation.

What do you think?

I'm looking forward to meeting some new people and trying out an evening show!

Dropped off new cards - MOTHER'S DAY CARDS! - and notebooks to Ransack and Ping Pong!

As always, it was great to drop by my two favorite retailers and chat with Colin @ Ping Pong and Michelle @ Ransack.

I dropped off Mother's Day cards and a couple new Birthday cards and gave Ransack 7 of the new notebooks. Emily of Argye Acorn was also at Ransack and she loved the notebooks so I looking forward to seeing how they sell!

Mother's Day Marathon

Tonight is a card-making marathon!

I wanted to have the Mother's Day cards done by now, but they will be at Ping Pong and Ransack this weekend and I can't wait to see how they all look together.

New Ideas!

So I've wanted to create a few more products for the Kitsch! line and thanks to some blogging network tips, I've made these great index card books. They are super cute.

I wanted to do themes - office, life, kitchen - but when working on artwork it was hard to keep the themes in find.

I'm also going to start with both vintage ads untouched and vintage-inspired collages. It will be interesting what people are drawn to more.

Garrison Spring Craft Show

Last weekend Ransack the Universe and Argyle Acorn held a fantastic craft show at the Garrison, a bar on Dundas west of Ossington.

Although I wasn't prepared enough to participate (eak!), it was great to see so many vendors that Mike and I met at Ransack's Christmas shows. I bought a few things that I didn't pick up at Christmas - like my handcuff necklace - as well as see some new vendors on the scene. It seems like I meet more people in the Spring that are just starting out then in any other season. I'm looking forward to doing more networking this spring/summer. Mmmmm, SUN!
